New Cheshire Bridge Location Now Open

Last week marked the grand opening of our new location! Guitar Shed is now offering lessons out of Big House Guitars on Cheshire Bridge Road. We have two new teachers shown below, Ben Williams(left) and Cody McAlister(right), who will be teaching guitar, bass, and ukulele lessons in the new spot. Contact the front desk for more information about lessons at Cheshire Bridge.

If you haven’t yet been to Big House Guitars, it is a wonderful new store that features some incredible custom guitars, collector’s items, and all kinds of instruments, amps, and effects pedals. If you’re ever in that area, be sure to check them out!

1st Ever Drum Recital

We’re looking forward to our first ever drum recital on 1/22 at 1:00pm! To better accommodate our students, we have moved the location from Guitar Shed in Kirkwood to our new Cheshire Bridge location instead.

Our new space is located inside Big House Guitars at 2323 Cheshire Bridge Rd. It has a stage and ample space for everyone to spread out.

The recital is for drummers of all ages and registration is now open! You can register by logging into our student portal and clicking on the Drum Recital event on 1/22. Please talk to your teacher to see if this will be a good performance opportunity!

Our Fall Showcase this past weekend was great and we look forward to some more performances in a few weeks!

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Keep Shedding!

Fall Showcase This Saturday!

Our last in-person showcase was almost two years ago. To say we’re excited about the Fall Student Showcase this Saturday would be an understatement! We can’t wait to see our students (hopefully in some epic costumes) perform for their family, friends, and peers this Saturday.

The event will take place at Waller’s Coffee Shop in Decatur and begins at 2:00pm. We have a full showcase with 50 scheduled performers – if your child is performing, you should have received an email yesterday with an approximate time range for their performance. The program will begin with our Teen Bands, and then will go mostly by age, save for a few exceptions of performers who need to leave early or arrive late.

Our admin team has a fun costume theme planned and we can’t wait to see some spooky, silly, awesome costumes this weekend!

Desmond’s New Album, “Shadowdancer”, Now Available!

Our very own Desmond Myers just dropped an album! “Shadowdancer” is now live on all major streaming platforms. Give it a spin today! You can purchase the album on iTunes and Amazon Music. Desmond will be touring in France at the end month to support his release.

Here’s a snippet from a recent write-up in Wonderland Magazine about Desmond’s new album:

“Gently ushering us into his evocative world with emotional-driven productions and heart-warming melodies, the artist soothingly croons over-simplistic beats. Touching on everything from temptation to self-discovery, the artist takes us on a compelling journey for this debut project, putting his raw and honest story on full display. From the mellow and soul-stirring “Playing with Fire” to the synth-tinged “Feels Like I’m Running”, Myers puts his creativity at the forefront of the project and presents an album that pays homage to his own self-acceptance.”

Preparing For The Student Showcase

Our Fall Student Showcase is coming up! Registration opens on October 4th and the showcase will take place on October 30th at Waller’s Coffee Shop in Decatur. This event is for kids and teens and capacity will be limited, so registration will be first-come first-served.

If you haven’t already, now is a great time to start planning your showcase piece! Talk with your teacher about choosing a song and, if they say that you’re ready to perform, developing a plan to prepare for your performance. Our showcases are a great opportunity for a laid back performance in a casual setting and, since this one is so close to Halloween, we encourage our performers to dress up in their costumes!

Keep an eye out for registration instructions next week and sign your child up to perform!

New Location Opening in October!
Big news! We are excited to announce that we will be opening a second location at Big House Guitars on Cheshire Bridge Rd. They have a great selection of vintage gear, vinyl records, banjos, and more. The store is already open for business, but lessons will begin in October. Register online to join the waiting list! Guitar Teachers please send your resume to [email protected] if you are interested in a teaching position. Keep Shedding!
Recap: Acoustic Ensemble’s First Gig!

Last Wednesday, our Acoustic Ensemble played their first show ever and did an incredible job! We formed the ensemble in January of 2020, and had only a few weeks of practice before we transferred to a virtual operation in March. After a long hiatus, we started rehearsing again when Guitar Shed re-opened this May, and began working up a set of seven songs ranging from Dolly Parton to Fleetwood Mac. The lineup of the Acoustic Ensemble two guitars, bass, and banjo and all four members sing! Each member was featured throughout the performance and they were well-received by the crowd. The group played on the back patio of Red’s Beer Garden in Grant Park. It was a bittersweet occasion, though, as the show was a farewell to our bass player, Laura, who is moving to California.

With that said, the Acoustic Ensemble is looking to add a new bass player and possibly another instrument. Please reach out to the front desk if you are interested in joining. Though this wasn’t by design, the ensemble is made up of all women, and will only be open to female musicians.

Current COVID Policy

We hope you are all settling into your fall schedules and having a good start to the school year! As we monitor the developing COVID-19 situation, we want to lay out a clear protocol for how we will be handling exposure going forward. The health and safety of our students and teachers is our main priority, so we will be adhering to the following guidelines, which have been pulled directly from the CDC website:

Persons with COVID-19 who have symptoms and were directed to care for themselves at home may discontinue isolation under the following conditions:

-At least 10 days* have passed since symptom onset

-At least 24 hours have passed since resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and

-Other symptoms have improved.

*In some cases of severe illness, the virus can last up to 20 days. Persons who have severe illness related to COVID-19 or who are severely immunocompromised should pursue guidance from a medical professional before ending isolation.

Persons infected with SARS-CoV-2 who never develop COVID-19 symptoms may discontinue isolation and other precautions 10 days after the date of their first positive RT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 RNA.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/disposition-in-home-patients.html

Persons who have had close contact with someone who has COVID-19 should pursue testing and start quarantining right away. Exceptions include:

-Someone who has been fully vaccinated and shows no symptoms of COVID-19 does not need to quarantine, but should be tested 3-5 days following a known exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 and wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days or until they receive a negative test result

-Someone who has recovered from COVID-19 within the last 3 months and remains without COVID-19 symptoms.

If there is an exposure at Guitar Shed, we will notify the teacher’s whole studio and you always have the option to go virtual. When lessons are switched to virtual due to COVID-19, we will offer the option to opt-out until the teacher or student can return to in-person lessons.

If the student is quarantined and has to switch to virtual, the typical lesson policy will be followed and we will offer make-up credits to those who opt-out of virtual lessons.

If the teacher is quarantined and has to switch to virtual, we will offer monetary credit to those who opt-out of virtual lessons.

We are observing a strict mask policy in Guitar Shed which, if followed by everyone correctly, should prevent the vast majority of potential spread.

We have engaged in talks with epidemiologists who work at the CDC who echo these sentiments and we will continue to observe guidance provided by the CDC and follow the situation to the best of our ability.
